still no vonage... still no internet

we are working on the apartment internet sitaution. hopefully it will come online soon.

i am currently in the HUC library. i have been spending a lot of time with fellow students, and we spent shabbos together yesterday. morning services at HUC, lunch and conversation at our apartment with several other students, some time in the park down the street with even more fellow students, and then back to our apartment for havdalah, followed by dinner post-shabbat on ben yehuda, after everything openned back up.

things have been pretty good here, of course the weather has been fantastic. the political situation has made some things interesting though. the planned pullout from the gaza has caused an uproar amongst right-wing orthodox, and one can see their call-sign orange ribbons and banners all over jerusalem. we left ben yehuda last night as a group of anti-pullout protestors were dancing up ben yehuda street. it probably wouldn't have made a big deal as the military is all over ben yehuda, but large crowds are something to avoid- so we do.

despite all this, i haven't felt unsafe for a moment. i was wanded by a security guard before going into the grocery down the street from my apartment, and have been patted down before entering any restaurant that i have been to thus far. they charge those of us that are eating in a small fee to help pay for the guard, but it is only a shekel (roughly 20-25 cents) and it is well worth it of course.

anyway, today the plan is to go grocery shopping, meet our apartment agent, and get the internet kick-started. i hope everyone is well!
