You know what this place could use? A nightclub.

Don't get me wrong, I like Good Spirits a lot, but you can't exactly go there for dinner and dancing. The pizzeria seems like it has room for musicians, but pizza's not exactly ritzy. I would love to hear live music again. Recordings are good, but a real show is an altogether different thing.

Everyone was always after my friend Geordie to record - he plays the fiddle...and really well, too - but he always said he preferred just performing in pick up gigs. Or, even better, busking.

[a laugh] He called it honest, and I think he's right. There's no denying what an audience thinks of your music when they're right there.

There's something to be said for recordings and broadcasts, too, of course. Half the country'd never hear music otherwise. But there's something special about a performance right in front of your face--never the same thing twice.

Seems like there're enough musicians here to fix that, at least. It's never going to be home, of course, but it really couldn't hurt to have a little more of a nightlife around here.
