Anyone have any tips for getting BOA to waive overdraft fees? And/or any advice on convincing them not to let me spend money I don't have?

The number one solution to this problem is obviously for me to not overdraft, actually use my transaction register and to stick to my budget so that this doesn't happen in the first place. But I would really appreciate it if BOA were a bit more helpful.

I'm gobsmacked that (amongst some other debit card transactions) they allowed me to withdraw money from one of their ATMs while I was unknowingly in the red and then charged an overdraft fee on that withdrawal. I have low balance and NSF email alerts set up on my account, but, I wasn't alerted until more than 24 hours (and 1 ATM withdrawal and 5 debit transactions) later.

Edited to add: Thanks for the feedback y'all. I'll be setting up overdraft protection this afternoon. And after this, ah, enchanting, experience, my wife and I will definitely be selecting "check balance" at the ATM before pushing "withdrawal".

2nd edit: Thought this upcoming change in BOA policy might be of interest to some other members: "Effective June 5, 2009: When we determine that your account is overdrawn by a total amount less than $5.00 after we finish processing for that day, we reduce the Overdraft Item Fee on your account and charge only $10.00 for each overdraft item that day."
