Some of you might appreciate this website. It provides a menu plan, a shopping list and recipes for feeding a family of 4-6 people for $45 per week.

ha that's pretty cool. I'm going to have to dig around the website to find a few of these recipes such as "Hoecakes". I haven't a clue what that is but I did find a recipe section hopefully they explain it.

I agree, the abundance of refined grains is my main problem with that menu - I'd have to exchange the white rice for brown, the white flour for whole wheat, and so on. And even with those exchanges, that's just way too much of it! Although I know that for some, money may be so tight that they have to make the choice between feeding their family good food or not feeding them at all, because healthy food often is more expensive. Thankfully I'm not there yet!

I think most of the value of that site is in giving hope that you'll get through a situation. Okay, maybe living on bread for a week isn't going to work for you, but seeing that it's possible to survive with very little can be a good thing.

That is useful. I would be interested in finding something that is a bit healthier - I want to eat about 1500 calories a day, with about 20g of fat.
