insulation

It is summer here now, but I want to get this issue resolved before winter, and I will need to spread out any costs over several months.

Basically, my flat is cold. To heat it, I have a small electric powered radiator. However, I can envisage this causing me huge electric bills in the winter, if I can't minimise my use of it. I have a timer for the socket, so it can come on before I wake up (my main problem time, because I have trouble getting up if I know I am going to freeze), so it needn't be on all night, but even so, it worries me. It is my first time paying my own utility bills, so I don't want to mess up too badly.

it is a rented flat, so I can't do anything permanent or too damaging.

The main problems are a large window that takes up 1/3 of one wall (the flat is about 4m by 6m, with part of it walled off to make the bathroom), and that the door has two big gaps, one at the bottom of the opening side, and one at the top (almost 1cm at some points) which can be drafty.

I know about taping up the window, but it is single glazed, so I don't know if that will be enough.

The door probably needs to be re-hung, or even replaced, but I doubt the landlord will be bothered enough about my bills to do it.

Also, ways to minimise heating costs in general will be appreciated.

Thanks
