Cleaning a large floor rug...?

May 29, 2007 15:25

I have a 10'X5' floor rug, and several smaller ones made from 100% synthetic Olefin fiber. I would like to clean the entire rug, but "cleaning (and "washing") Olefin" did not produce many usable results from Google. The instructions say to spot clean with a mild detergent...but I want to clean the whole rug, rather than spot clean, AND I would like to do this as inexpensively as possible.

There's no way it would ever fit into the washing machine, being huge and stiff, and my concern is that dry cleaning is going to be quite pricey. I hate spending money on dry cleaning and have thus let it get a bit dingy. I am also concerned that trying to scrub by hand will ruin the fibers or result in an obviously uneven cleaning. Thrifty ideas, or am I going to have to face the dry cleaner's fees?

Thanks!

P.S. I in no way am intending to be rude...but I couldn't resist making the respectful request that if someone has already submitted an idea, their one comment expressing that idea is plenty, if filling my inbox with 20 comments expressing the same idea could be avoided, I would be quite grateful. Of course, I understand that two people might post the same idea at exactly the same instant etc. Thankye! :)
