keeping cool

May 13, 2007 09:10

one would think that, having grown up in south florida, i would have some knowledge of ways to keep cool in the summer with AC.  however, my parents had the AC on most of the time and thus my skills there are limited.

since we relocated to NC, i am loving the weather here.  it's cool enough to have the windows open, which is great because i want to avoid running the AC for as long as possible.  however, the days are getting quite warm and our apartment has windows to the west.  i DID check the memories and tried the "swamp cooler" last night; it cooled the room but blocked the airflow from the fan so the jury is out on that one.  i also tried closing the windows and the blinds to keep in the cool but within an hour it was unbearably stuffy and i wound up putting on the AC (at least until the rain hit an hour later).  are there any other suggestions for keeping the house cooler in the daytime?  wikihow had some good suggestions but any others would be appreciated.
