It depends on the type of car... but I'd sell it to someone as a parts car (and not keep it yourself). Is it a newer car, or older one?

Oh man, to be honest, I KNOW you can get more than that!

My FIL sold our totaled '93 nissan stanza for $800, after it was in the paper for a day. First person who came to see it, towed it away at the same time, and he got TONS of calls over it. It had a blown engine.

That person is trying to screw you over. Call tow yards, and scrap yards and ask for a quote.

I'd ask for quotes from professionals first.... that way someone doesn't try and screw you again :)

My FIL fixes up cars as a hobby, and has his dealers licenses. I've also seen him buy broken down cars, like your for almost nothing, and turn around and sell them for MUCH more the next week after a couple hours work... so I know the basics! LOL

Guys who do this for a living, or actual income, will do anything to make a bargain for themselves and thrive on finding those people willing to "give" them the car. I kinda understand, but since you're lower income, you can't afford to just "give away" a car just to get it out of your yard like some people! LOL

exactly. he got my number from a neighbor...thanks neighbor. im sure he sought me out b/c he knew it would be a good deal at 250. i have a car we need to fix and thatll be around 800 so im gonna shoot for that. should i call dealerships or junkyars to get an estimate? thanks for your help, this is my first time doing this.

Dealers won't know anything. Call scrap yards, and tow yards and such. Dealerships only work with working cars. You want people who part out cars :)

i dunno what junkyard my husband sold his car to, but he said he only got 40 bucks for it so that doesnt sound like a good deal, ill see if all the junkyards around here are like that. thanks for all your help, its indispensable.
