NYC

I've got a couple hours to kill in New York by myself. Any suggestions on some inexpensive stuff to do? I'm trying to stay away from just wandering into stores because I'm afraid I'll be tempted to blow money I don't really have on silly things.

entertainment, travel

Staten Island ferry. It is free & you go right past the Statue of Liberty.

Wander through Central Park & people-watch.

I was just about to suggest that. I've heard it's really fun.

The metropolitan museum of art and Natural History museum are "sugested donation" so if you don't mind getting a turned up nose from the cashier, you can get in with pennies.

i think there is a nyc for free comunity on here somewhwere

if you are in central park or near it anyway, why not walk along 5th avenue? the window displays are quite nice. you could also check out rockfeller center and stop by and see whats going on on the today show. (if its still on, im not sure what time they stop filming out there)
times square is fun too.

what time do you have these 2 free hours? I'm not doing much today, we could meet somewhere and i could show you around (i live in washington heights..163 st)

I'll actually be in the city tomorrow. I have this information interview thing at 10 AM (not sure how long it will last) and then I'm basically waiting around for my Dad to get off work so I can see him for dinner. So a window of like 12/1-5ish I'm assuming.

if it was today it would be ok, but tomorrow i leave the city at 8 am....

definitely central park...the weather is supposed to be nice... fridays are generally free museum days (in the evening) but like someone above said, the price is only a suggestion, and if you go to the Met (81st street on the East side of central park) you could give $2 and they have to let you in, and you can easily spend hours there.

I think my favourite times in NYC have been spent walking around and meeting people. There are also great street performers all over the place, I do recommend dropping in a few quarters at the very least.

oh I usually do, some street performers are mind blowing, so I always try to keep spare change with me!
