regifting and tax refunds

Two brief questions (each with a small amount of an explanation):

Firstly, what are your thoughts on regifting?
The reason I'm asking . . . I'm a kindergarten teacher, and since today was the last day before Christmas break, I got loads of really nice but useless (to me) gifts. I've always held on to all of my gifts for "sentimental value" but I'm running out of room, and most of it is stuff that serves absolutely no purpose. I get loaded down several times every year . . . like today, the trunk of my car was totally full of gifts. I'm very appreciative, and my students will all get very nice thank you notes and they've already received loads of hugs, but . . . And I'm broke, and I still have a few people to buy for who already gave me something but I hadn't intended on getting anything for them but now I'll feel bad if I don't.
Until now I've always thought regifting is a bit tacky, but . . . now it's seeming kind of practical. What do you think?

Also, tax estimators . . . how accurate are they as for actual amounts on refunds? I just used my last paystub on an H&R Block estimator to see what I'm looking at this year, and it's actually telling me my refund will be about double what it normally is even though my income is close to the same . . . and I don't even get an education credit in 2006 (which I have every year in the past). Perhaps more taxes were taken out or something . . . or could it have anything to do with tax status, since I turned 25 this year? I know that would have changed my financial aid, but I've filed my taxes as just me since 2001.

I consider both of these poor skills related since regifting is definitely a "saving money on shopping" thing and tax refunds are a huge deal for all of the other poor folks I know, so I hope you all agree that this is relevant.
