i'd love to know what wal-mart items work just as well!

My stylist works at a salon in a Walmart and what she told me was that it doesn't matter how often or seldom you shampoo--wash your hair when you like, whether that's once a day or once a month. Just don't use cheap shampoos, they'll ruin your hair.

I sat down with a calculator and worked out that using a more-expensive shampoo once a week was cheaper than using Suave everyday (Suave chosen as an example because Walmart usually has it for .87 per bottle).

Now I wash my hair twice a week, usually with a less-costly-but-still-quality salon brand. I let it airdry without combing, brushing or heating it and it's glossy and healthy all the way to the ends.

Yeah seconded.
I pay 30 dollars a bottle for my shampoo but it lasts me about a year an a half each time because I only need to use it 3 times a week and don't need conditioner all the time. So while there was a big payout at the beginning it ends up saving money in the long run.

I love the aussie line. I talked with my hairdresser about it and he says that they are about as good as the ridiculously expensive brands. I also don't shampoo every day, my hair is almost to my waist, and I scrub the scalp and two inches closest to it every two or three days, (whenever it looks funky) and just let the suds rinse over the ends. Lots of long hairs say to do that, just because the ends need less cleaning than the roots. Olive oil is a great conditioner, btw. With a perm, I'd scrub the scalp the same way and frequency, but wet the hair, and maybe condition every day.

Oh yeah, Suave and White Rain are both from the devil and will fry most people's hair because they are basicly hand soap in a shampoo bottle.
