so i need some help/information. i'm 23 years old and will be graduating this semester and therefor will no longer be a full time student, and will lose health insurance coverage from my father. apparently a new law goes into effect jan 1 saying that if he claims me as a dependent on his taxes than i can still be covered under his insurance until i'm 25, unless of course i work full time and can use the insurance offered though my job. unfortunately the insurance through my job is going to cost me $400-$500 a month and i'm already barely scraping by financially. over the past few months i have signed up with the accc to help with my credit card debt and that is finally under control, i consolidated my student loans and got a deferment on payment until may. i was just getting ready to pay my dad back the $500 i owe him and was set to finally be able to budget and not go deeper into debt and now this hits me.
anyway my boyfriend told me that now that mass passed this new law saying everyone has to have insurance, they offer different kinds of insurance and that i should look at those options before signing up at work. i went to the the mass website but couldn't find anything about these health care plans.
so my question is, does anyone know where i can get information on these plans? will they be any cheaper than the one i can get from work? will they offer all the same benefits but for a better price?
thanks in advance guys!
edit: okay guys, i spoke to an HR rep with my company to get this whole thing sorted out. my co-worker had told me he paid about $250 per paycheck (and we get paid every two weeks) for his insurance and dental. so i talked to the HR woman and she gave me all the packets and insurance info and it turns out that i will only have to pay $112/month for the plan i need. so everything has been sorted out and i am THRILLED. i will however be speaking to my co-worker because he is either really stupid, and has no idea where the money he makes goes, or he was lying to me. anyway i just wanted to majorly thank everyone who helped me.
