On Titling; or, why can't I name things, whyyyyyy?
Anyone who’s really stopped to take note of the names of my stories has probably noticed that coming up with titles is not my forte. I’ve heard authors say that the title comes first and the story flows from it. I’ve heard authors say that the initial idea and the title go hand in hand, inextricably entwined.
This is just not the case for me. I write my story, and then I polish it up, and then I get ready to submit it to my publisher, and then I realized, “Oh no, I still need a title.” And then I stare at the story for awhile. Cock my head this way and that way, hoping something will materialize out of the blue.
