Adam Walsh Act: Write Your Congressman!!!!!!!!!!

Apr 15, 2009 17:45

The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act was passed on July 25, 2006, 20 years after Adam Walsh's abduction (Adam's dad is the one who runs the tv show "America's Most Wanted"). The act established a National Sex Offender Registry law, but recent news reports reveal most states will not be in compliance with the law by the upcoming July 2009 deadline. If senators and state representatives don't comply with and fully fund the act, it will expire.

The Act provides a NATIONAL SEX OFFENDER DIRECTORY that keeps track of pedophiles who move from state to state, trying to evade the system. WE NEED TO ACT NOW! We MUST let our congressman know that we are SERIOUS about protecting our children.

Oprah has all the information you need to write and send a letter (or five) to your congressmen. Please do all of the following:

Don't know what to write? Use our sample letter.

To contact your senator: Go to Senate.gov to find contact information for the senators in your state. Search for your senator by name or state by clicking the arrow from either drop-down menu. Contact information will be provided. To send an e-mail, click on Web Form below his or her name. E-mail your letter to make a difference.

To contact your state representative: Go to House.gov and click on Write Your Representative in the upper left-hand corner. Select your state from the drop-down menu, and enter your ZIP code, including the four-digit ZIP code extension. Contact information will be provided. To send an e-mail, click on Send a Message. On the state representative's page, click on E-mail the Congressman/Congresswoman, and e-mail your letter to make a difference.

Print a copy of this letter.
To copy and paste the letter into your senator or state representative's Web form at Senate.gov or House.gov, point your mouse arrow at the beginning of the text that you want to copy. Click your left mouse button and hold it down. While holding the left mouse button, drag your arrow to the end of the text that you want to copy. Release the button. The text should be highlighted. Place your mouse arrow over the highlighted text, click your right mouse button once and let go. A new menu should appear. Select Copy from the menu. When you get to the message form field for your senator at Senate.gov, point your arrow at the beginning of the message field that you want to copy your text to, and right-click with your mouse. Click Paste from this menu. Submit your form and help our children!
