It's complicated.
He calls her whore, and all I can hear is 'I love you'.
They would've never worked out, especially because Joss wanted her dead.
Inara was 'fatally ill' and she would've died at some point.
They never even gave us a kiss *sighs*
They were old school Hollywood melodrama, ladies and gentleman. And it would've been maybe not 'adorable', but beautiful. And angsty and tragic and epic, gorram it.
