the football post

It was a good weekend for Manchester United. Kind of a good week. Both Chelsea and Arsenal dropped points and United managed to capitalize on that. Again by all accounts it was a not so United performance and a team having two players sent off is always helpful. I was surprised by Rangers, didn't expect to see a repeat performance of their 'parking the bus' tactics when they needed to win. They had about two decent chances but they seemed too concerned with defending, so much so they looked giddy whenever they got within shooting range. Even though they didn't find a way through in open play I'm glad we scraped the win, there's a time and a place for parking the bus but fans deserve better at home.

I was pretty conflicted by the return of Wayne Rooney. You don't expect the player who declared time after time that he was Manchester United through and through to suddenly announce he wants out. It opened our eyes to what the sport had turned into. Forgetting comes easy in football though and emotions automatically take over, I cheered his goal (though, admittedly, penalties hardly count) just as hard as I usually would. It's not about him, it's about Manchester United. I think we'll have to wait for his autobiography to learn what really happened that one mad week. What a fickle business this is.
