(no subject)

Some of these movies aren't what some might class as amazing movies. Some might not even class them as good but these are the ten movies I personally love at this moment. Subject to change.

10.

Wizard of Oz
Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking

Reason : For sentimental reasons. I loved this while growing up or so I've been told, "You used to come home from Nursery and want to watch Wizard of Oz". It's no surprise I grew up to love watching people sing and dance.

9.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Love the front of me, honey!

Reason: A bit of an odd one but more singing and dancing. A much more grown up affair that Oz though. It's a bit of a character study and a journey of life, love and acceptance. A truly fantastic performance by John Cameron Mitchell in the title role that really should be seen. Oh, and the music isn't that bad either.

8.

The Faculty
I'm not an alien, I'm discontent.

Reason: Maybe another sentimental one as it one of the few memories to stick from my teenage years, feeling all bad-ass at 14 getting into this 15 rated movie. I think we all thought at one point during High School that the teachers were, infact, aliens. This movie explores that theory. I like it. Also, little did my 14 year old self know how awesome Jon Stewart would turn out to be.

7.

Man in the Iron Mask
You have the heart of a king

Reason: This film should not be good. Some can argue that it isn't. I adore it. It's over-the-top but there are parts of it that I know off by heart and can recite with Oscar winning accuracy. I love everything about it, the music, the musketeers, the over-acting. It's just brilliant.

6.

A Knight's Tale
Better a silly girl with a flower than a silly boy with a horse and a stick

Reason: This is a surprisingly good movie. My favourite of Heath Ledger's. Again, like Man in the Iron Mask it's a silly movie but this one has more of a quality to it. The casting was fantastic for what was quite a small film really, when you think of blockbusters today this film didn't really make the same kind of waves but the heart and humour of this film does more than enough to match up.

5.

Milk
How do you teach homosexuality? Is it like French?

Reason: A very well made movie with the most obvious Oscar winning performance I have ever seen. The tone of this movie is spot on and made me think of how far things have come since Harvey Milk and yet, how little has also changed. I watched this around the time Prop 8 was being voted on and it made me feel so frustrated and angry. Which is a good thing. A good, good movie.

4.

Moulin Rouge
Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love

Reason: A love story to tear you apart. This cemented my adoration for Ewan McGregor and that smile of his. A master class of a movie. Not placed higher because of it's ability to stamp on my heart.

3.

Garden State
I'm okay with being unimpressive. I sleep better.

Reason: I very much relate to this movie. It makes me laugh and it makes me cry. It also has a fantastic soundtrack.

2.

Fight Club
Only after disaster can we be resurrected

Reason: Another master class of a movie. An acting class from Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. Very well made and tapped into that very clever method of ensuring people would need to see the movie at least twice to truly get everything the film tries to be.

1.

Little Miss Sunshine
Life is one fucking beauty contest after another

Reason: The only out and out comedy on my list (unless you count Man in the Iron Mask) as this one has a heart to it that I find rare in comedy movies. Only narrowly beats Fight Club because of it's more upbeat outlook. A great little story about family. It's a really great movie to watch in the winter, with your duvet on the sofa.
