You've only come to see Beckham..

I wasn't wrong when I said his return to Old Trafford would be more of an event. The game was over when he came on which makes his appearance a very nice gesture by his current manager. It was heart-warming to see the reception he got, the 'Welcome Home' banners were a welcome change from the anti-Glazer ones that have become ever more frequent. I'm not sure if it took Becks by surprise at the way the United fans cheered him on as passionately as they would a current United player but you could see he was struggling to hold back his emotions.

It was a very good night for United. A 4-0 victory, 7-2 on aggregate and the sight of a much loved ex-player striding down the tunnel wearing the protest colours of green and gold. A public show of support for the fans while still distancing himself by later stating the way the club is run is "none of my business" which I respect entirely. What I don't want is for the fans to start forcing this on the players, whatever they're own private thoughts on it they can't be seen to be joining in. For Beckham to show support, unwittingly or not was enough.

A good night indeed.
