So I just watched every episode of Chuck ever in 48 hours. Time for a review ( Read more... )

I found this via Google Alerts, and I just want to say WORD. I've been watching and loving Chuck since day one, but the things that irritate you are the same things that irritate me, right down to the comparison with Sam Carter! (I've even posted a rant called Chuck vs. the Teal Deer, although mine was about the abuse the characters suffer in fanfiction.) Although, I will admit, I never watched Jake 2.0.

Well ... goodness! I honestly just got into Chuck (although my buddy regann has been bugging me to get in for some time. I finally bit the big one.

I really loved Sam in first ... 4ish seasons, but then we got hit with the 'bawww I love Jack and it effects how I do my job every other weeeeek!' and yeah ... all that love evaporated very quickly. She was so awesome and professional those seasons, a testament to the fact that a woman can be a woman and still strong and professional.

It really is a good title ... I couldn't not use it, I might need an essay series.

Jake 2.0 was, despite my moments of nostalgia, not an amazing show, but I can see its fingerprints over Chuck for all of the improvements, I definitely see places where Jake 2.0 got it right and Chuck just got it wrong wrong wrong.

I can't watch Chuck because I find it too boring (and this is coming from someone who has sat through every episode of LOST). I can't relate to the characters and I don't think it's funny. I haven't seen Jake 2.0, so I can't really compare, I guess.

Plus, that Super Bowl commercial it had made no sense. I will never be able to get over that.

Yeah, well I've enjoyed the pacing and such so far. There's not been an episode that's made me think 'this is the one episode I would show them in order to convince them they need to see this show' which I think is a bit of an issue.

The issue with the characters is that they really haven't grown much and that's something that doesn't bother you as much when you marathon 1.5 seasons in a row, but if I'd put 1.5 years in I think I'd be more frustrated. Tonight's episode actually gave me some hope that they are moving forward and developing some of the characters more, but it's a little slow for my taste, and if they step backwards again next week I'll be pretty irked.

Maybe I would like it more if I started at the beginning of the series, then? I tried a random episode when it aired and just couldn't get interested. So, yeah, that might be my problem. I can see where the appeal in it might be, I just couldn't catch on.

LOST does the exact opposite, in where the characters get a lot of growth, but the plot really only goes in circles. There are more questions than answers and UGH. If Chuck's plot is at least going somewhere, then maybe the characters will catch up? Some shows do that, so maybe there is hope!

Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only person in the world who's actually seen Jake 2.0. So I am quite happy that someone else has not only seen it, but is also rather disappointed in this new, watered down version of it ( ... )

You're not alone, baby! I have also seen every episode of Jake 2.0! My sister delights in saying that obviously Chuck is superior to my old love, but the more I watch the more I become convinced that Jake 2.0 may actually be superior ( ... )

Yay~! At this point I'm still very Jake 2.0 > Chuck, but I am trying to keep an open mind. Mostly. I think I find Jake far more adorkable than I do Chuck, regardless of plot and writing.

... I think the fact that I did not even catch that Chuck is supposed to be a genius speaks volumes over the show's ability to do anything with his character. Or that I need to pay more attention and take off the 3-D glasses.I agree about the concept and the writers, but I think another major part of Chuck's success and Jake 2.0's downfall has been the networks they appeared on. Chuck is not only on a major non-cable network, but it has frequent commercials and advertising. The entire 3-D Super Bowl commercial is testament to that. The addition of Chuck's day job as a retail clerk also helps to bring in a wider range of viewers in addition to any science fiction fans it already has ( ... )
