Hi.
It's been a hot minute.
What has happened in the past couple of months is that I took on a costume project that was unlike anything I had done before. I was working with PVC pipes for goodness sake. In the end, the Aerith Gainsborough costume came out incredibly well. I had an immense amount of fun sewing up a denim jacket (so much so that I've already planned a non-costume jacket) and I was told by someone that I did such a good job on the jacket that I should open up commissions. That's great and all, but all commercially sold patterns restrict you from selling anything made from that pattern. Personal use only. But I was flattered.
I made my own belts for this costume. Just with belting, a buckle, a hammer, an awl, and a nail. These were for the belts in Aerith's sleeves (going by the Dissidia design). I had so much fun hammering the belts and the jean buttons that I'm starting to think I should start learning how to work with leather. When the sun is finally out and I can take some pictures, I'll put up a build post on it and all the resources I used.
Something is different about this week though. I took a vacation. For the first time. I was finally able to see a couple of movies in theaters that I was really interested in, Jojo Rabbit and Parasite. I came out of Parasite unable to control my tears. Perhaps that's a post for another day. I might actually get around to baking something with all this time too. It's weird, because I'm a workaholic, to have an entire set of days to myself.
In the meantime, I'm excited about the fact that Liquid Sky has finally been released on blu-ray and that the soundtrack is available for the first time. This is a movie that I found hiding on one of my dad's VHS tapes and watched repeatedly when I was 15. I'm inclined to purchase it. I started working on a Cult Movie playlist (
here) too because I watched Shock Treatment and Rock & Rule earlier this month. I made a Halloween playlist that I was especially proud of because I didn't use any typical Halloween songs on it. My sister gave me Vic Mizzy's score for The Night Walker as a departure point and I liked how it turned out (
here).
I'm glad to post something here again. Just getting a few things out of my mind and onto a blog post feels better.
