-Creating a summer reads list for work that is 90% things I am interested in and 10% things other people are interested in.
-Getting used to driving to work again now that I have a car that isn't totaled. The last time, I listened to The Fiery Furnaces' Rehearsing My Choir (one of my favorite albums) and still felt utter glee when listening to Guns Under the Counter and hearing the bells start up. "Confectioner's sugar so sweet it was caustic and chocolate so bitter that it could kill typhus!"
-Learning that a simple dress for a cosplay is far more difficult than it may seem. I'm working on By Hand London's Sabrina dress and it has been quite a hassle. Such as: finding out the dress didn't fit, ripping out all the seams and sewing the dress again with less seam allowance, only to think that it wouldn't fit right, getting upset, and putting it away. Then, magically, last night trying it on again and finding out it fit perfectly. In this time, I also sewed up a Seamwork Rory pattern which is now one of my favorite tops. Who knew I would feel so comfortable in a crop top. Next on my workbench is a Named Patterns Maisa jacket for this cosplay project.
-Replaying Curse of Monkey Island, one of my favorite games. I'm new to Steam but I've always loved indie games, so when they announced their summer sale, I jumped on it. And I found out they have so many old LucasArts games!! Point-and-click is my jam. It's my childhood. I also purchased La Mulana, VVVVVV, Gris, Curse of the Necrodancer, Papers Please (a game I avoided for a while because it was too much like my job when I had to take passport photos), Grim Fandango Remastered, and Full Throttle Remastered.
-Reading loads of non-fiction. I always get to see the new non-fiction books so next thing I know, I've checked out one or two of them. I'm thinking of breaking the cycle and reading The Talented Mr. Ripley soon.
-Hemming and hawing over what I would like to watch on The Criterion Channel. I can't decide whether to watch Hedwig and the Angry Inch or The Man Who Fell to Earth next. All I know is the second I start on a Nicholas Roeg film, I won't stop until I've watched them all. Not to mention all the Criterion Collection films I own that I haven't watched yet, like My Own Private Idaho, Valerie and Her Weekend of Wonders, and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.
-Making gluten-free Boston Cream Pie cupcakes for 4th of July just because. And practicing my right not to watch an authoritarian parade on TV.
-And perpetually working on the novel that hates me and refuses to allow me to finish it. We're at a much slower pace now due to lots of things, but them's the brakes.
