Of course the one weekend that I could have spent writing about the books I've read was spent traveling. Specifically, I was in Solvang and I am now equipped with A Clockwork Orange tote bag and a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy shirt. Also I may have purchased a hardbound copy of Hanif Kureishi's The Last Words because I was so excited to simply see a Hanif Kureishi novel in a bookstore - I'm still finding it difficult to obtain the books I want in commercial bookstores, though I do still search. I have much better luck in used bookstores. However, The Book Loft is the only place that carries authors I don't normally see amongst the shelves of Barnes and Noble.
Currently, I have a free Hulu Plus account and I am trying desperately to watch all the Criterion Collection films I can possibly get around to before my time is up. So far, I've only gotten around to Tokyo Drifter (which I've already seen) and Night on Earth. I've discovered that Jim Jarmusch has two passions in this world: music and cities. Jarmusch films always have the best soundtracks. Or it's possible I just love Tom Waits that much. Also there was a character in Night on Earth who reminded me of Axle. Slightly.
My free time has also been gobbled up by Earthbound, which I finally purchased on the virtual console. I can't begin to tell you how much I love the Mother series. There's something about a story that starts innocently enough with little children and ends in body horror that calls to my inner being. Earthbound, in particular, is my favorite probably because I've been able to play it. It's certainly one of my favorite RPGs. And I've been enjoying it immensely. In fact, I hope to write about it. Eventually.
Have I mentioned that I purchased a Xenogears shirt? Now I am! A man! Of the sea! So long as no one brings up wells while I'm wearing it, everything should be fine.
books,
video games,
blah life
