Well, I just got back from downtown Chicago where I put mom on a train headed back for Louisiana.  I was a little worried, I admit, about how that whole scene would play out.  I figured the worst case scenario is that we'd both start sobbing right there in front of all those people waiting to get on the train.  It's not that I'm such a softie... it ( Read more... )

She and I talk here and there on the phone and write back and forth -- and we certainly don't see eye-to-eye on some pretty big things -- but there's just that undeniable history there between us. I'm usually okay as long as we're either together or apart. It's the hellos and goodbyes that get me upset.

Thanks! It was neat to have mom seeing all the things that I've been describing to her over the past year and a half. I think, now that she's seen where we live and how we do things, she'll probably worry a lot less. Although, she really didn't like the "L" at all (the leering people and crazies)... so it's a good thing that we don't take it that much. She told me that her favorite part of the trip was walking through Lincoln Park and looking at the squirrels and leaves. sigh

Aw, I miss my mom too :(

..... and how funny, when my parents came to visit me up here in August, I also insisted that they bring as much Community Coffee as possible !

Yeah, Community RULES! I sometimes order online, but I save on shipping when Mom brings it! :-) Yankee coffee sucks.

She brought some Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies (we didn't ask for those). Just smelling those things brings me back to Sunday mornings, sitting on my great grandad's porch or sitting up drinking coffee with my MawMaw. They also remind me of being F-A-T!

We also had her bring us some Oak Grove Jambalaya and Dirty Rice mix. Zatarains' can be found across the country, but it's not my favorite. I've not looked for Oak Grove online, but I really should. That's stuff's goooooood and it's good for dinner when you're in a hurry.

I'm just glad to see that you got to see your Mom. I miss my mom, and I still have to wait another month and a half before I see her. I'll probably lose it the moment I see her... she's now bald from her chemotherapy. (She's now wearing hats that Dad describes as "Blossom" hats because they look like what Mayim Bialik would wear!)

I'm glad things went well with her visit. I'm glad she saw that you're doing well up here. :)
