I've learned to not watch the news.... especially in the morning. I usually get outraged and James has to bear the brunt of my Andy Rooney-like rants. He dares not contradict me, either.
#1: Why the hell is it so WORLDWIDE NEWSWORTHY IMPORTANT that there's been a potential development in the Jean-Benet Ramsey Case??! First of all, that was TEN YEARS ago. Second, what makes her murder more traumatic than the hundreds of deaths/murders of children in our country? Just a few months ago, TWO girls not much older than this little PRINCESS were shot down in their homes (within days of each other) by random bullets and this did not even make a RIPPLE in national news let alone around the world. You don't see anyone shooting any kind of documentary about THESE little girls, do you? So why should I give a shit that some poor little rich girl was bludgeoned in her own home more than I care about the little girl who was shot before she even got to blow out the candles at her 8th birthday party?! Neither one of these children deserved to be killed so we should either treat these cases equally or shut up about it.
#2: Furthermore, since when did our "emotional state" give us justifiable -- or at least EXCUSABLE -- reasons to shoot someone while they're lying in bed in their own home? Remember that housewife who shot her husband (who happened to be a minister) a few months ago. She's been released on bond while she awaits trial. Her attorney was on TV reminding everyone that she's still in a very emotional state and that she hoped to be returning to her life as usual. Before anyone goes pointing fingers at the fact that she was a housewife and had no outside contact with the real world and before we all start assuming that this woman was surely physically and or mentally abused by this horrible white, fat, holier than thou, abusive asshole -- turning her crime into the stuff of a Lifetime Movie of the Week -- let us remember that she has told authorities that she was in no way abused, held hostage, or anything of that nature. She and her husband merely had a disagreement (her words) about finances. She got up that morning, shot him while he was still in bed, and then headed for the hills with their children. Crazy? Maybe. Emotionally fragile? That's a load of crap!! Point is, even if this guy was an asshole (by the way, no one thought he was), does that give anyone the right to take his life?! This lady could be doing your dry cleaning... hope you don't have a disagreement with her over your bill... she is emotionally fragile, you know.
My morning goes much more smoothly without hearing all the latest hype. Give me the weather forcast, remind me what the weather will be like on Saturday and Sunday and then SHUT UP. I don't need to be reminded that the entire world is crazy, that Hollywood is making another combination prequel, sequel, AND re-make, that Paris Hilton was seen taking a dump in her house, or that someone can get away with murder if they're a mother and are unhappy (for more proof, check out the woman who was NOT sentenced to life in prison who drowned her three children one-at-a-time in the bathtub).
