Farwell to a Treasured Friend
Barbaro not only had a strong spirit, but an inspirational one also. He fought through injury and illness, and never gave up. But, it was not fair to let him fight forever. Although we have lost a dear, kind, strong, intelligent, and gentle friend today, we should be proud. He gave people around the country hope as we cheered him on. We were sad when he was hurt, and rejoiced when he got better. He beat the odds numerous times, and in no way lost his battle with life. He is no longer in pain and no longer has to worry about living a life where he can never run in a field or graze freely again. His spirit and life are still alive in everyone who loved, believed in, and was touched by him. We will not forget Barbaro, Kentucky Derby winner, survivor, and friend.
