Winter Olympics 2010
My fav winter Olympic sport is figure skating, especially the pairs. Or at least, is has been for most of my life. Except, I find myself not liking it as much anymore. It all started like 2-3 winter Olympics ago, when the scoring system was changed.
I remember watching pairs skate as a kid, and WOW, the artistry, the flowing motion, the movement, the air, the spin, the jumps . . . all in unison. WOW! How amazing, OMG they landed it! So envious!
Now I watch and go, ok, she fell, she fell again...oops, he's out of sync with her, eh, they’re' not FLOWING together. Oh, they got silver. Wow. Yay. Whoo. WTF?? THEY GOT SILVER? For falling like 3x? HUH?
The artistry is gone now, there’s not FLOW, no symmetry anymore. It's all technical and well, BORING! Even the music is no longer fun, and the costumes this year especially seemed boring to me. A few pairs tried to liven it up, and that was more FUNNY then beautiful. I am sad about this.
I know that the new checklist system is "better" b/c it's not as subjective but C'MON! Part of figure skating is the flow and artistry that go into a program. I watched 2 hours of it tonight and every routine was totally the same stinking thing! And totally BORING! Not to mention, NONE of the skaters had a flawless (or FALLess) performance. And they didn't the other night either. What' sup with that? Since when can you call on your A** in the Olympics and get a medal? Huh? What did I miss?
Am I just wrong here? Am I too critical? Anyone have thoughts?
Ohhh, can I add ANOTHER pet peeve about the Olympics? BOTH Olympics? I'm sick of all the talking b/t events and the fact they NEVER show events that *I* want to see. Summer was ALL about swimming 2 years ago. Yes, I know, the guy was breaking all sorts of records, ect ect. WAM, there are HOW MANY swimming events? And we have to watch them ALL, but we’re not gonna see any other event? Wow. I didn’t watch them. Like at all. They lost me as an audience. I wanted to see the equestrians. But since things were "live" feeds, I'd have to be awake at 3AM to see it. Thanks guys. And now? Yea, figure skating is in bits and pieces at a time, and the only reason I got to see it tonight . . . was the fact that they messed up the men’s speed skating ice rink, delaying it by an hour, so they HAD to show figure skating. WTF? C'mon guys!!! Show me OLIMPICS, NOT OLD COMMENTATORS TALKING ABOUT PAST OLYMPICS!!!!!!!!!
