Angry about things on the internet... fan fic rant!
Usually I don't get that mad about fan fic. Back button is my friend and I go on to read the next fic.
Sometimes I shake my head or roll my eyes about all the whumping/bashing, fantasy fullfillment and tropes and leave it be.
Write what you want and all that.
But somehow this Hawkeye fanfic hit me where it hurts. And not in a good way. It made me angry. I had to stop reading it so upset I got.
In this fanfic Hawkeye is illiterate.
The writer had someone simplifying orders/instructions for Hawkeye for his missions so he would understand what he should do.
What?
No, author. No.
People who can not read and write aren't stupid!
They can understand what you say when you talk to them!!!
Even "big" words!
They are very clever in how they are hiding their problem actually and avoiding difficult situations for them in work and every day life.
Really clever in how they are making up for their lack of reading/writing skills, working around it and still get shit done.
Without you noticing it!
So.
Hawkeye is an agent for years in that story.
He would not need someone to "dumb" it down for him.
He would need someone to read papers to him and write reports for him.
And then Coulson, his boss/handler/friend/person Clint respects, finds out and confronts him about it. With giving him a report and telling him to read out loud!
What an asshole does that?
Coulson is the one with the power( to fire Hawkeye etc) , he knows of his agents difficulties and still puts him in this situation to out him?
Humiliate him, hurt him and scare him in this way?
(Instead of, you know, just asking him, talking to him maybe?)
I had to stop reading right there.
This? Is not romantic or nice or helpful or respectful!
And I didn't get the feeling the author recognizes this as problematic in her/his fic or in any other way.
Or the readers who wrote praising comments.
I'm so pissed. I have a really hard time not to comment on that fic and get all CAPS and RAGE on all of them.
But I'm so angry I can barely express myself through my unfriendly feelings in English here.
(Hopefully someone else will see what upsets me and write a comment to the author but I'm not holding my breath. sad sad)
