Gone Fishin'

Today we went a party boat. Although I expected a lot of Dr Dre and booty shaking, it turned out to be a group of people who wanted to charter a boat to go fishing together for about 50 bucks a head instead of 500 bucks for the whole thing. That was fine.

So about 15 of us pile onto a 73' boat and plow our way out about four or five miles. My stepdad shows me how to use a fishing rod and we get to work. 3 hours, 19 grunts and two red snappers (ignore Dr. Dre for a minute, these are just fish) later, we get back to shore and have our loot filleted.

Excited about our morning adventure, we go out onto the pier in our temporary front yard back at the "resort" and try our luck there with some chopped up ballyhoo (drunk fishermen must name these things). This was where 3 sharks were seen yesterday. So we cast our lines and hang out, and after a minute or two a little nurse shark starts poking around our area. Not long after, a brown fish is seen being chase by a stingray. About five minutes after that, a big CHOMP occurs and my line is missing its food. And hook.

Within minutes stepdad pulls out his first bonefish. They are apparently good sportfish down here but bad to eat, but man do they fight. It wasn't long before I got my own, and it swims in different directions and tries to use the pier against you in its mad dash to escape. But, eventually, it came up and I got to stand there like a grinning idiot while looking at this little guy suffocate. We let them all go but not without a nasty little reminder that we huamsn are just bad people. Bad people overall.

So we trekked back to the house and fried up our two red snappers and asspile of grunts and ate about half of them. They were awesome. The rest we put back in the mini-fridge next to the pickles-that-seemed-like-a-great-idea-while-grocery-shopping-before-getting-here. I'm sure we won't touch them again.

We're going back to the reef tomorrow for one last snorkel before packing it in and driving home. That should be good fun, and then we start the two day drive home.
