This weekend was the first real weekend I've been able to go out and about the Lehigh Valley area, partially because it's the first weekend I have had enough energy to get out of bed for more than 4 hours at a time, and partially because it's the first weekend I've actually spent on campus.

Friday night ended up being one of the most wonderful evenings of my college experience. I always feel content on the inside when I am able to orchestrate successful evenings out with my close friends. I feel practically bubbly after my first glass of wine; I am at one with the world after my second.

We ended up dining at the Hotel Bethlehem in a room overlooking the south and east views of historic Bethlehem and the nearby river that runs through it. From our vantage point I could see both the goings-on of the people on the street, couples kissing and groups of friends walking quickly through the cold, as well as into some people's apartments, where one person in particular was half-watching the elections on CNN and half paying attention to what she was cooking in the kitchen. Our waiter was as tall as he was genial - that is to say, 'very' on both accounts - and we spent the evening joking with him about life as a college student in the valley. Originally a business major, he had wanted to transfer from Moravian to Muhlenberg, but was rejected. Out of this experience, or possibly unrelated to it, he switched to an art major. We ended up leaving our numbers just in case he ever wanted to hang out in the future, but I doubt he'll call.

At that point I had reached my third glass of wine, and as the last sharp edges wore off the evening it was time to go home, and I the skillful driver passed billboards promoting condoms, then God, then assisted living; and I curled up so comfortable in my soft bed and my blue sheets, dreaming the dreams of one too many glasses of wine.
