It was cute and I enjoyed it but I don't think it lived up to the hype. On the other hand, I was afraid it would be really cheesy with all the fanservice/pandering and it wasn't.
There wasn't much of a plot or much to it, just fan service so here it goes:
Derpy Muffins was my favorite, she was so cute! I would love her to have a starring role in an upcoming episode or just see more of her. I think people are over Muffingate, thank goodness.
I liked Dr. Whooves - he seems different from the actual Dr. Who which is fine and I'd like to see more of him too. Though his accent seemed a bit fake, like Octavia's. The nod to friendshipping the two was cute as was his Tom Baker scarf. I think Baker is best Doctor.
I didn't like the Liebowski ponies. It was funny that one time but that's it. Just a one-time joke. Now it feels forced. They do seem proud of this reference since Jeff is in the Gameloft game.
I really like the friendshipping of Lyra and Bon Bon Sweetie Drops. It was kind of cheesy - particularly the secret agent bit but at least that explains Bon Bon's many voices. They didn't go overboard with the fanon about these two which is nice. Lyra sounded too much like Rainbow Dash, same voice actress I know. Their reconciliation was sweet.
I love the Vinyl/Tavi bit but it was in the previews. To have a real song would have been nice. Button spinning on top of the turntable is still cute.
Gummy was cool. I love the Flower Ponies. And Amethyst Star! Also the one changeling! <3 I would have loved to have seen Chryssi but still. And the princesses fighting, I liked that.
And Steven Magnet! I love Steven Magnet anyway. (He did seem even more stereotypically gay though.) I guess this is what was in the animatics. And it was amazing when he showed up in the spa and also hugging Bulk Biceps with the squee noise! I like that he and Cranky are good friends and the mustache toupee was sweet and echoed Rarity's gift to him. Actually I would have liked Steven and Rarity to have interacted as my headcanon thinks they are friends.
I enjoyed the near disregard of the Mane Six though. And the ending was cute.
This makes it sound like I really liked it hahaha. I would in fact like to see them do more of this stuff at least as asides in a Mane Six epsiode. It makes the world of Equestria seem bigger and more real.
