MLP: FiM Season 5 episodes 7-8
I had to catch up with this. Between being gone and preoccupied with other things...
I liked this one but I was expecting it to be more epic, between Discord and The Smooze. G1 Smooze is definitely better.
I did however that it specifically focused on the friendship between Fluttershy and Discord and that she got to show some depth between just being a doormat and occasionally Hulking out. Though last season she stood up to the Breezies and before that she turned into a bat, that was good too.
Treehugger is a funny character and I kind of like her but she got old after a while. She reminds me of too many hippies. She also always sounds like she's stoned, that was amusing! I don't want Fluttershy to start smoking weed.
They could have tried more with the background ponies and stuff here. It was the Gala after all and both the show and the fandom have come a long way. I thought Steven Magnet was going to be in this, too, based on the animatic preview.
I really liked the CMC in their gala dresses, so cute!
Naked Rarity was again pretty funny.
Pinkie was kind of funny but Maud was the best. She made the whole episode and she got to wear a sparkly dress!
I did love seeing Discord's realm. It reminded me of Doctor Strange and other Marvel comics with alternate dimensions, only goofy.
It was weird too because I saw it just after the Star Trek TNG episode where Picard dies and Q gives him a chance to relive a lifechanging event early in his career. So John DeLancie all up in this. Quite a good episode too and one I saw years ago and mostly forgot.
Yay, a friendship map episode! I really liked this one and didn't expect to based on who was in it - I heard about Gilda's appearance before it. I wanted to see more griffons, just not that one. I don't like her. and I generally like the villians and bullies on the show. The fandom tends to agree with me, Gilda was really unpopular there - we also agree that Sombra sucks.
However Gilda reforming, and the way it happened was worth it. Not quite a Daring-Do-level episode as the title might suggest but there was a bit of an adventure - and then it all turned out to be a Friendship Problem. Also baking is important. Thanks, Pinkie. Who was extra cute here. I love Pinkie with the candy and Dash imitating Twilight.
We also have a reason for Gilda to have been an asshole in the first place, as griffons were all miserable fucks there.
Also young Gilda was so cute!
Poor Gummy, that alligator has no idea how to bake a cake!
Also 100th episode previews! Background pone episode!

100 episodes is also the traditional minimum for syndication, which means MLP: FiM has been successful (by network standards). It is also 20 more episodes than Star Trek: TOS.
