Pondfilk VIII part 2

Jul 02, 2008 16:45

Ok, again - thanks to everyone that participated in our yearly mosh pit.

The start of Pondfilk is always a date/time in question as people arrive at varying times. This year was no exception with raaishan and carmiel arriving on Monday night to start the learning process associated with recording. Their two young men were excited to meet the hoard family pets and established relationships with them varying from gentle petting to reviewing the best way to hold a wriggling cat upside down by 4 paws.

Wednesday came Ms Dawn who moved into her little Potter hole under the stairs and enjoyed the sights, smells and sounds of downtown Victoria and our local parks for a few days.

Thursday, together came shaddyr and hsifyppah followed in late evening by our GOH(s) peteralway and judifilksign who were able to travel together via the same plane and wave from varied locations at each other...

Friday saw the main influx of happy Pondfilkers. Travelling by Coho, BC Ferries and teleportation from Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Everett etc... nimuejohn arrived mid afternoon. We crowned her the filker most travelled for the con, we can't include the GOH's that would be unfair!

We never did make it to the Ukrainian dinner but Thai food and various salads and coldcuts seemed to sooth most of the savage whathaveyous. vixyish and tfabris arrived quite late in the evening as did a few other adventurous souls. As usual, beds were assigned by my warped logic. Couples get to sleep together, singles do if they want to but don't get large beds to themselves unless all couples are satisfied. I'm strange that way....

Tents were set up, our tent was announced missing in action, (probably with my license plates and Rozalind) more recording happened in the studio. Lots of filking - many new songs worked on and geeking accomplished.

Our networks ran out of leases -- a new router was added to the system to allow for more connections, This was vaguely successful.

Saturday, jefferycornish & Geojlc arrived yaY!!! whistle, new guitar and dulcimer and happiness.

dulcimer workshop, guitar workshop, food, bbq, filking, more filking. Judi's new song, more filking... JT and I did "A Last Battle" I apologize for any aspersions to kendear's volume - he did great -- I had brain lapses.

We declared moosaic4's husband Dan the king of the BBQ. His beef strips are awesome. Must come back, do more!!!! OMGBBQ

Did I mention that Peter did a wonderful concert? Judi had a chance to sign his stuff -- Barfy -- well, what can I say??? I'd asked my co-engineer on my CD project to come over and record the Saturday night concert stuff for me to get me off the stress hook. I'd bought a bunch of new gear that day and it was handy to use as we didn't have to dismantle the studio to get the session files :) I'm trying to keep my stress down as I've been a bit fragile since before my dad died and I'm learning when to pull back and when I can risk it. Better than just hiding in a closet.... So, then we had some 2fers. The idea was to create a CD for Interfilk Auction to raise some money in the name of Pondfilk rather than just having an auction this year. I'll be working on that in a couple of weeks when my CD goes off to the Mastering Engineer and I am off the participation twiddling hook.

Judi is not only a wonderful performer, she is a wonderful performer, human and ambassador for filk and ASL. This weekend was one little teaching/learning session after another. Brooke learning to sign Mad Science -- a very useful sign for her :) learning some other err terms and linguistic phrases that will come in handy at mongol invasions, filk sings and family dinners :)

Everyone who was here this weekend made my world a happier place. runnerwolf and her blessed partner sar_anon our new friend Michelle who will be forced to return cause we like her so much...

more again later...
