Post-holiday roundup
Happy New Year, everyone! Thank gods the holidays are over, eh? Time for some last-minute year-end catch-up items before I address my goals for the coming year...
- Belated happy birthdays to nihilistbear and elcazavampiros! I'm sorry I missed your birthday; I hope you had a fabulous celebration!
- Thank you, aimeelicious and entrenous88, for the holiday cards! Although H and I took down our Christmas tree to make room for our New Years Eve party guests, our mantel is still covered with holiday cheer!
- Congratulations to the winners of the Light My Fire Awards 2005 (The Sentinel fandom, both gen and slash), especially to the talented writers on my flist: fluterbev, lamardeuse, and spikedluv -- may there be many more!
- Best of my recent music acquisitions: El Bando En Fuego!, by Lee Press-on and the Nails. Not only is this fun/lively nouveau swing a la Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, but they're also not-so-slightly twisted, which shows in their original songs. How can you not love a band that performs a number called "(You've got a) Shaolin Kung-fu Death Grip on my Soul" (which, by the way, has one of the funniest guitar solos I've ever heard)? Also, their song "God's Gift" sticks it to all the ego-trippers we've all met at one time or another...
- Concrete doesn't have to be ugly. Have I mentioned that I'm a modern-architecture geek? Here's a cool architectural web site: Liquid Stone: New Architecture in Concrete, a subsection of the National Building Museum's web site. Click on the "Featured Projects" tab at the far right side of the navigation bar to see existing and planned buildings that use concrete in innovative and beautiful ways.
