Polygraph Lounge

Belated birthday greetings to lumenara! I had the pleasure of meeting her at Writercon and took much delight in the juxtaposition of her freshly scrubbed, girl-next-door appearance contrasted with her delectably wicked brain.

H and I went to a wonderfully wacko concert this weekend. Combine two virtuoso musicians, who've played everything from classical to jazz to bluegrass, then add the influences of Tom Lehrer, "Weird Al" Yankovich, Spike Jones, and PDQ Bach, and you get Polygraph Lounge. They did "Inna Gadda Da Vida" as Gregoran chant, Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" a la surf guitar, and a whole long piece on Moby Dick that wove together such diverse references as "Purple Haze,", "Green Acres," and Stravinsky's "Firebird" and made it work. And then there were the parodies. "Scalia! I've just met a judge named Scaliaaaaaa...."...

I've never laughed so hard at a concert in my life. If Polygraph Lounge plays in your area and you appreciate talent with a healthy dose of irreverence, go see them.
