the beach was really great yesterday. i definitely got some color - maybe a bit too much. i am so glad i went, even though i feel a little behind at work. i had this weird run-in with a cop though and got yelled at by him. he was super aggressive toward me and it kinda made me feel bad, sad, and mad all at the same time. (holla dr. seuss!) i'm thinking cops on broad channel don't have much to do except to yell at girls waiting for the subway? whatever - i think after i took my sunglasses off and looked at him with all of those emotions, he sort of was like, "oh i'm being a dick" and just walked away. i dunno. i'm still confused by it.
anyway, i've got a bunch of projects that i have to get done at work and we have shows starting much earlier than usual in september which makes me a bit stressed about it all.
andrea bocelli is going to be singing three nights with the ny phil at the beginning of september. we usually don't get rolling until the very end of the month. then right after andrea, we have
trey anastasio from phish playing with the ny phil. sounds kind of random, but he does shit like that often. the crowd that shows up for those performances are quite the full spectrum. makes for an interesting night at carnegie.
in completely different news ... one of my closest friends, diana, just competed in
the ironman in lake placid and kicked ass! she came in 20th place for her age division. she is not a professional athlete, but anyone that swims 2.5 miles, then bikes 112 miles, then runs a full marathon is a pretty hardcore athlete if you ask me. add to this that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in december, this easily makes her my hero. after a bunch of surgeries, she is doing really well (obviously) but it's all still really scary. anyway, she is running in a breast cancer race in nyc and if you feel like donating to her cause - you can
right here. that would rule.
i read
something today that stuck with me. it said, "I am responsible for my life, including how to spend my time." man, sometimes i get stuck in my apartment and feel all anxious and shit and just don't wanna do anything. ever feel like that? well, diana got me all inspired, but beyond that i am really getting tired of my being stuck and not getting the things that i WANT in my life done. i don't know what that block is about - but what i read today made me think maybe a little bit differently about it.
it's not easy living in one little room with a husband, two dogs, and a rabbit. i made an appointment to have our wood floors refinished at the end of the month. this means we have to move EVERYTHING out of the apartment for about 5 days. i'm feeling a little panicked about it all especially because hello? this is new york city! it's not like i have a garage i can move this into and i'm on the 10th floor and there's lots of things that have to line up in the universe to get this done properly. i'm just gonna push through it though. we're going to go live at my grammie's house in ct while this is all happening. i'm looking forward a bit to that, but not living next door to my mom. oh! the fellow that refinishes the stages every year at carnegie hall will be doing my apartment. i thought that was kind of neat.
i've been cooking a lot since i have so much time off in the summer. tonight, i made bbq chicken, rice pilaf, and corn on the cob and it was super yum. for dessert, i had acai sorbet with cut up banana, cashews, and chocolate sauce. double yum.
this has turned into a long entry, eh? i'll leave you with some stuff i've been looking at:
- DIY pressed botanical specimens - i can do these while staying at gram's.
- zipper pouches from moon tea - all are really cute.
- abbey ryan of ryan studios does a painting a day and then sells them. i really like the style and small size of these paintings.
- i think i'm going to go to blue hill farm with my friend jenny. we'll go for a hike and explore the farm and eat some good food.
- speaking of hiking, i want to go to the greenbelt in staten island where apparently there's a bunch of trails. i called and asked them to send me a trail map. who knew there was such a big park in staten island? not me.
- ohh, i really want this cookbook but i want to wait until the price comes down or i can get a used copy for much less. i eat at 'wichcraft all the time and love their food. it'd be cool to be able to make some of the sandwiches that are filled with goodness.
enough of all this posting baloney. have a great night!
