after watching a bunch of vh1 countdowns, i have been inspired to make my own,
so here are my TOP TEN ALBUMS
10. Guster: Keep it together - a rock-solid upbeat pop expression. So infectious and graceful, yet complex in an intelligent nice-jewish-boy kind of way. this album is overflowing with love and peppy-ness
9. Barenaked Ladies: Born on a Pirate Ship - this album documents BNL at the height of their youthful grunge exploration. It has a terrific edgy and tense sound to it and a lot of raw emotion.
8. Radiohead: Kid A - stripped of any sort of commercial hooks, Kid A delivers minimalist music flooding with bizarre yet captivating sonic beauty. It is one of the most innovative concept albums sure to make you listen and think to yourself "di they really just do that?" well they did. and they pulled it off.
7. Simon and Garfunkel: Bridge over Troubled Water - my favorite album from one of the greatest pop duos of all time. Its not cluttered with the typical musician's desperate and forlorn attempt to be political or poetic; its just Paul Simon being himself. Its emotional and wonderously melodic. There are few groups who can hold a song on just two voices and a guitar. Simon and Garfunkel held up a career on it, and this album is at the top of it.
6. The Beatles: the White Album - Its the beatles, what can i say. Yes this album was really just an almalgum of solo albums, the songs on it are still great.
5. Bruce Springsteen: Born to Run - this is definitive rock and roll. A soundtrack to the typical american's life. They don't make rockers like Bruce anymore.
4. Led Zeppelin: How the West Was Won - I didn't think it was possible for Led Zeppelin to rock any hard than they did on their albums, but i was wrong. Here they're live and full of pure rock energy. Not only is it a collection of some of the best rock ever created, but it showcases the band's raw musicianship and talent in some of the best improvisation ive ever heard from a rock group. two words: KICK ASS!
3. Coldplay: Parachutes - Coldplay's debut album, just as smart (maybe even smarter) than A rush of blood to the head, but 100 times more emotional. Its dark and sensitive but extremely heartfelt. It swoons with inventive and striking music that's slow and powerful.
2. Radiohead: OK Computer - Dark, emotional, extremely rough and edgy, yet one of the smartest and most innovative albums ive ever heard. The music one this album is all extemely smart and well constructed, but its coated with a hefty layer of production that only augments its artistic beauty.
1. Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon - In my opinion, this is hands down the greatest album ever made. Smart as hell, smoothe as hell. This album flows like a river and gives out not only music but its own little universe. Its the quintessential concept album. Its brilliantly layered and structured. Its not just a collection of songs, but one singular entity. I love it.
so there you have, my top ten. Please don't be offended by anything i said (cuz i know that can happen sometimes when i talk about the music i like). All this is completely subjective and is just an opinion. and its completely subject to change, my cd collection may be extensive but is in no way complete.
but as of now, these are my favorites
love to all
