Death of VAX

Aug 24, 2005 08:54

My current sun system is destined for demise, for we are switching over to Unix Intel based workstations. So I was looking over some old files, trying to figure out how to save them, when I remembered I had left some on my old Vax account.

Vax was a computer system designed by Digital (since bought by Compaq, since bought by HP) that we accessed on monochromatic dumb terminals until about 10 years ago. Vax lived on because some old programs were still on that system. So I left some files that were collections of memorable Emails on there. Anyway, when I tried to get on today, I couldn't. It seems like it's all gone. It lived it's life, and it's memories have died with it.

I wonder how many people in the world today can say they have had the same Email address for 15 years?
