Time Travel

I love the show Heros, but I'm a little worried that they may get into left wing propaganda with their portrayal of the evil Home land security. Also the whole time travel thing can get messy. I don't mind ignoring the laws of physics that do not allow time travel, but I hate it when stories are not consistent in their own world's laws. From watching many movies over my lifetime, I've found 3 possible fictional laws of time travel.  Traveling back in time can have one of these effects:

1. anything you change effects the future so your original present changes.
2. anything you do has already been done so your original present stays the same
3. you cannot successfully do anything to change the original time line significantly
(like throwing a pebble back in a river may cause ripples, but wont change the flow)

#1 was followed by "Back to the Future" (although they messed up alot.  For the kill your grandpa paradox, you can still kill him, but you'd disappear the instant you did.
#2 was followed in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure".  So when they were trapped, they said we'll come back in the future and hide a key right here, and there it was.... you could not kill your grandpa here.
#3 was in the "Dragon Lance Chronicles".  If you tried to kill your grandpa, you would either fail, or end up living out his life (therefore becoming your own grandpa).

It seems like Heros is following #1, I hope they don't screw it up.
