Okay... OH! I know... how old were you when you first started noticing the gender of your choice was appealing?

((The author apologises for the eye-searing political correctness, but Alice does not know whether the unusual professor enjoys bishies or cutegirls.))

Well, I theoretically had figured out that boys weren't yucky in  what you Americans would call seventh grade, when they started coming to me for help with homework. Some of them really needed my help, but some of them didn't at all. This, once explained to my friends, lead to lots of blushing on my part. When mentioned to my parents, lead to me being told not to help them. My parents didn't want their little girl being distracted by icky boys. I think they would've been happier if I'd ended up a nun.

Hah!

Anyway, despite theory, I think my parents' protectiveness must've won out in the short term. Or I just didn't know I was missing. In any case, I didn't get my first real crush until I was 16. He had wings, and a fiery sword, and he was very, very smart, and he treated me like a fully-grown-up person instead of some kind of overgrown kid or a weird alien from dimension X, which is how I think most people regard teenage girls.
