*once again locked against professors*

I think for my next lecture, I'm going to go off-syllabus and teach soul detection, so that I can use my students, Largo-style, to help find which squirrels are really squirrels, and which are transformed students. I expect about 90% of the class to fail at this, as it's a very advanced necromantic spell, and ( Read more... )

Okay, um... not to be too rude or anything, but I DO recognize that abbreviation and isn't using a book like that to teach students kind of... criminally irresponsible?

Let's remember who the professor is - a criminal. So please define 'criminal irresponsibility' again in this case?

... I guess you have a fair point there. Well, how criminally irresponsible is it to use a book that's basically saturated with evil to teach students? And by 'saturated with evil', I mean that this book is one of the darkest, most vile, evil books out there.

It's about on the same level.

Not bringing whatever book I learn the spell from out into the classroom. Just teaching the spell. For one thing, exposing students to evil forces violates my parole spell, so I literally can't do it.

That's why I preferred the other one. I was only looking for a particular spell, but remember, I received my degree at a Dark Arts college. It's not the spells you learn, and it's not the books you learn them from. It's what you use them for.

Using necromantic magic to discover which students have been transformed into helpless animals against their will and rescue them, for instance, is a fine use of that spell. Locating objects that have souls in them to target for desecration is an evil use of the spell, and the reason it was invented. But we don't have to put things to their intended uses.

It's possible there's a divination or other school of magic spell, but necromancy's the only thing I'm sufficiently advanced in to be useful in this investigation. At least, I don't see any way to use fire for it.

There are divination spells and more mundane ways to track to see who is a transformed student and who isn't.

I have some... experience in the matter, so again, my assistance is offered.
