Okay, this so-called "water main" incident in the Offensive Magics building is highly suspect, and I've decided to act on it. The problem is, I don't have the resources to investigate this myself. I need your help, folks.
1. I've been poking around the admin building, and it looks like they've computerized their records system recently. I'd like to get access to it, but not in a way that's traceable back to us. One of my old cell-mates has a rare combination of skill with magic and skill with computers that I think would be ideal for poking around the computer systems to see if we can find more inconsistencies and perhaps a clue as to what's being covered up. The problem is, I don't have the resources to pay this person for the work, which is fairly risky. (One does not meddle in the affairs of wizards lightly, after all). Can one of you perhaps help with this? Someone with influential parents? A white-hat job for the person would be ideal. Also, due to the nature of my parole spell, I can't tell people to commit a crime, which this is. So this is about the limit of organization to this particular part that I can provide, for which I apologize. I've e-mailed my parole officer to ask for additional latitude in the matter, but it's never worked in the past.
2. I'd like to try to get an investigator into the building undetected. There are three possible approaches to this suggested by various students and myself. I'd like to try them all, ideally simultaneously.
2a. Remote sensing. Any of you guys clairvoyant? That'd get you past the transformation spells. I could ask the divinations professor, but I don't trust any of the faculty anymore. They're very cliquish.
2b. Visitation from beyond the grave. Some of you guys have been talking to ghosts. Are any of them friendly? Are any of them curious? Do any of them have unfinished business I could perhaps help them finish in exchange for their aid? I think their incorporeal nature would protect them from being squirrel-fied.
2c. Mechanical Visitation. I've determined that Bob is insufficiently stealthy, but if we could get a small robot or perhaps a levitating wireless webcam into the building, perhaps we could see something. Ideally it should be relatively durable technology, so the magic doesn't play havoc with it. Here, I lack resources to acquire such a camera. Anyone have a camera they don't mind donating to the cause, bearing in mind the distinct risk that it could get turned into a squirrel, or worse?
Naturally, you heard none of this from me, and I will express shock and dismay (and explanations as to why a betrayer would be bent on harming my already-shakey reputation) if this is shared with the faculty, particularly professor Jakovic.
Okay, back to writing up my (most likely fruitless) plea for assistance and additional investigation to my parole officer. Pattern recognition doesn't seem to be his strong suit.
