Hey everyone! Sorry about the lack of updating in the last 48 hours. I hope those of you that celebrated Christmas had a good holiday. We have not forgotten about you!
storydivagirl is making a master list of recs from
yuletide to post here in the next couple of days. She's on the S-fandoms and working her way down, so you have that to look forward to soon. In the meantime, I'll be here giving your bi-daily dose of reccing in my favorite fandoms.
Stargate Atlantis
McKay/Sheppard--10 Recs
Complicated by danvers--Sheppard tries to make amends after the events of "Sanctuary." Funny and sexy and a little bit sad in parts.
John smiled and nodded, pointing at Rodney. "That's very good. No, I was going to say it's refreshing. When people see who you are and don't hold it against you."
Rodney straightened up haughtily. "Major, with your sexual libido, holding anything against you would be a decidedly bad idea."
A Non-Denominational Holiday Mission Report by smittywing--Scrooge McKay. Comes post-"The Hive," I think. I like the reveal of why Rodney dislikes Christmas so much.
"Because you're part of the team," Sheppard said, amusement leeched from his voice. "And we're picking out a nice tree for Elizabeth and the rest of the city. And you're going to shut up and be happy about it."
Contraindicated by Zulu--An AU coda to "Lost Boys." Ford's plan involves the Genii.
John knocked Rodney's elbow with his. It was the closest he could come to kicking him in the shins. "Listen," John said to Kolya, and winced. It was the last thing Kolya was willing to do. John forced himself to continue. "I realize it might not look like it, but we are the hostages here."
Nightmares by out_there--Kid!Rodney. I'm reccing this one because the set up is so good, I can envision the happy ending even if I can't actually see it on the screen.
Still, Rodney's scowling at the floor, standing outside John's quarters with spindly twelve-year-old arms crossed, wearing a mismatch of Athosian hand-me-downs because none of the Atlantis uniforms were made in children's sizes.
The Topography of Heaven by mirabile_dictu--Aliens make Rodney find his inner chia. It's a very lyrical and pretty story.
"Him. And no, you haven't. He's my, uh, teacher. Mentor. Roshi, maybe. I'm not sure. Anyway, he never leaves the temple compound." He turned to Elizabeth. "Do you know what I'm learning now? How to sweep." He looked accusingly at Elizabeth.
Grab Something Sweet by Lydia Bell--Rodney gets a wake-up call. Literally.
He half-woke to the sound of footsteps. Still drowsy, eyes still closed, he listened as they came closer, then stopped next to him. For a moment, nothing happened, and Rodney had almost dropped off again when he felt the nudge of a booted toe against his side. "Yes? Can I help you?"
The Class of 2005 by coreopsis--High school AU about geeky Rodney and football star John. Very, very sweet. Even contains some side Grodin/Zelenka.
"Oh. Okay, yeah, sure, I understand," said Rodney as John smiled at him and closed his locker door. He smiled at Rodney and it was just as wonderful as the last two hundred and twenty-three times he'd done it.
Coping Mechanisms by amireal--Lots of angst and h/c. I am fond of hurting!Rodney, if only so I can imagine that amazingly compelling frown spreading over David Hewlett's wide, crooked mouth. Pretty. Contains the Genii, lots of sex and daring adventures.
John's heart nearly stopped as his chest squeezed tightly. His lungs contracted as if he's just taken a few g's unexpectedly. "Rodney," he choked out, but he couldn't say it, say anything. He was too caught up in the heavy weight of Rodney's body and the muted sounds of the other people milling around them.
Dear John and Other Theses by reccea--A love letter from Rodney to John who's off at war.
That's the kind of love letters John guessed you got when you dated Rodney McKay. Which was fine. He preferred them anyway.
Siberia by Luthien--Rodney tries to find some warmth. I like the way it explains the evolution of Rodney's feelings from "Trinity" all the way to "Grace Under Pressure."
But anyway, back when he arrived back at the SGC… Yeah, sure, things looked pretty bad, what with the world - or at least the Stargate program - likely to end at any moment, but at least he was important again, and around people who did more than just look at him in pretend-incomprehension. He could be sure that any incomprehension he got from the American military was a hundred percent unfaked, and Carter, at least, could keep up with him most of the time.
