Numb3rs (5 Recs)
1.
Absolution by
audrarose - Numb3rs, Don/Charlie [R] - Set in the aftermath of a police scene, Don tries to hold onto Charlie. Really hot and wonderful and I love how protective they are of each other. And then check out the equally amazing sequels,
Resolution and
Connection to Reality. Don hopes someone is going to come along soon and wash the blood off the street. He could probably go get someone to do it, but he’s not quite sure who to tell and he feels weird asking whose job it is, like he should know that already. He’s not usually here for this part. Shouldn’t be here now; should be working on the evidence, on finding the shooters, but he isn’t leaving until Charlie finishes giving his statement.
2.
Absence Of by
evilsimon - Numb3rs, Don & Charlie [No Rating] - I loved this piece. It’s beautifully written and the Don point of view is perfect and I adore the idea of Charlie trying to be the protective one. Don puts his fingers over his own mouth, feeling the breath hiss from his lips. Stepping towards the blackboard, he doesn't know what to do but to look at the numbers as though he understands them.
3.
Home Remedy by
penguingal - Numb3rs, Don/Charlie [NC-17] -This is just…really hot and yummy and I love how Don just pins Charlie against a blackboard and kisses him. Charlie was standing at the boards, his back to the door, working happily away. It was the first time Don had seen him upright in several days and he took the opportunity to simply watch as his brother scrawled and scribbled, his brow creased in concentration and a grin on his face. Slipping into the room silently, Don made his way up behind his brother, wrapping his arms around his waist as Charlie reached up to write at the top of the board. "I thought you were supposed to be sick," he whispered in his ear.
4.
Shades of You by
neur0vanity - Numb3rs, Don/Charlie [R] - A series of interconnected drabbles that follows the growth and transition of the relationship. Just right. The moment he spotted Charlie getting off the elevators, headed towards his team, Don rushed for the bathroom. It was out of his nature to hide, especially from his brother, but he hadn’t been acting in his nature, especially with his brother.
5.
Additive Inverse by
castalie - Numb3rs, Post Sniper Zero, Don/Charlie [NC-17] - This is exactly what I wanted after seeing that episode - a protective and possessive Don - plus the extra benefit of an understanding Charlie. Good stuff. A few typos and unnecessary use of the word “lover” but so worth dealing with because it’s wonderful. Long after an exhausted and sated Charlie had succumbed to sleep, Don was still wide awake and still thinking. Thinking back to the past few days: the close, so close near-miss, the discussion he had had with their dad, Charlie's insistence at learning how to shoot a rifle... Edgerton.
Miscellaneous (9 Recs)
1.
The Sweetest Girl by
catch22girl - 24, Post Season 4, Kim/Chase [PG-13] - I’m hardly a fan of Kim Bauer, but this fic, set from Chase’s point of view as Kim slips further and further away, actually made me feel for her. It’s good stuff. Chase’s stomach knotted as he heard “What Sarah Said” begin to play, a song she’d listened to at least fifty times since the funeral. And it was followed by “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” She could use her iPod, but she wanted him to know she was in mourning.
2.
Waking, Dreaming by
quiet_rebel - Alias, Post season two, Syd/Sark [PG-13] - Okay, I admit it, I’m biased about this as it was written for me for Sweet Charity…but if you love the Sarkney this is simply perfect as Sydney deals with dreams from her time as Julia and deals with working with Sark in present time as Sydney again. Wonderful. It all started with a dream. Sark’s voice soft in Sydney’s ear. “Remember me. Remember me, Sydney.”
3.
Rush Week by
romanticalgirl - Brothers & Sisters, Kevin & Tommy [PG] - Kevin and Tommy move him into his apartment at law school and they have a little conversation. I love how brotherly they are, even when things are still slightly awkward between them. “So.” Tommy drops the box on the floor and surveys the room. His face is a mask of indifference, but his eyes are curious, searching. Kevin watches him with the usual mix of trepidation - Tommy’s both his best friend and worst enemy - and amusement, a secret joke between brothers that no one else knows, a secret language only the two of them - not even Justin, never Justin - understands. “This is law school?”
4.
The Thing He Carries by - NCIS, Gibbs/DiNozzo [PG-13] - This is just a very schmoopy wonderful fic set around the things that Tony finds in Gibbs’ pocket that make him realize a few things. Tony's wool overcoat desperately needed to go to the dry cleaners. As he dug it out of hall closet on his way out he decided that he might as well take his partner's as well, it had seen equal abuse recently.
5.
Stricken by
kageygirl - NCIS, McGee/DiNozzo [G] - This is a short ficlet, but it’s absolutely adorable as Tim tries to think of a way to comfort Tony. Tim's seen that look on Tony's face before--he even caused it once himself, when he was pissed at Tony for calling him "Probie" again, and he snapped back by pointing out that it looked like Tony hadn't rated his own team to lead, not permanently.
6.
Living Motion by
inlovewithnight - RPS, Matthew/Ioan - I love the rituals that the boys have together. I love their relationship. This fic just made me go “awww” a whole lot. The first night in the flat, they go out on the fire escape with a pack of cigarettes at sunset and suddenly it's dawn. The air is thick and heavy, with smoke and the ghosts of words. They had started out talking about girls and rugby and ended up trading the underside of life stories, the parts they didn't already know, and the rough-sketched outlines of future dreams.
7.
After the Funeral by
phoebesmum - Sports Night, Dan/Casey [No Rating] - Casey tries to take care of Dan, even though it’s not always easy. I love established relationship for these boys and I love Casey being there for Dan through everything. Just wonderful. Casey would have given anything to make things right. If only he had the first idea where to start. But all he could do was stand by and wait for his moment.
8.
Santa Clause Won’t Make Me Happy by
lordessrenegade - Sports Night, Dan/Casey [PG] - Charlie tries year after year to give Casey what he really wants for Christmas. I love Charlie in this and how he just wants his dad to be happy and can recognize what would do that. It’s short, but perfect. Every year, Charlie McCall had a plan. It wasn't a very complicated plan, or even a very brilliant plan. All he wanted, every year, was to get his father what he most wanted for Christmas. And every year, he failed.
9.
Muscle Beach Party by
larah33 - Veronica Mars, Mac/Dick [PG-13] - I love the idea of Mac/Dick as a couple and this is just so perfectly in tune for the characters. Highly recommend it (also read the story that came before it -
Beach Blanket Bingo - which I recced before. If you asked her now what prompted her to say yes to Logan's wild idea, Mac might tell you that she saw Dick's suffering and was being all sentimental towards her dead boyfriend's brother. But at the time, it was as if she'd been possessed by some outside force. Even though she had hoped never to have to see Dick again, let alone talk to him, she had just agreed to sit down and try to have a serious discussion with him about Cassidy's death.
