Shahar D. is a neurotic, strange man who studies economic stuff with Assaf. He's pencil thin, and has a problem with his left eye and so is always leaning oddly at you with his right. His hair grows in unkempt wild curls until a mad cloud surrounds his head, at which point it is hacked back till he almost looks normal.
Yet within this relatively plain, work-a-holic, unassuming man, a sea of creativity lies. I remember in Assaf's old car there was a little plastic dinosaur (his spirit animal) that lived alone on the cold dashboard. For Assaf's birthday Shahar made the dinosaur a little tropical island made of felt and wires (complete with a little coconut tree), that widened the dinosaur's smile and added a huge amount of character to the little vehicle.
I've always heard that Shahar used to be a dancer but it's hard to imagine when he's standing before you. I finally saw a clip from his old modern-dance days and was amazed to see the way that lanky body swayed and jerked in calculated lines. The brilliant contrast of a person who's taking classes about banking, stock markets, and insurance but who onced studied the grace of the human body just warmed me from head to toe. Its the people who open up slowly and reveal amazing depths and strange curves in character that make me the most pleased about the human race.
