Wow.. what an adjustment!
Lucas is amazing.. and VERY VERY cute... and very good! At the moment he is up for feeding and changing about every 3-4 hours, which means that we are getting a bit of sleep, which is great. I had a bit of a meltdown earlier this week- my boobs got SO engorged that they stopped working properly, and Lucas couldn't latch on.. hand expressing just didn't work, and neither did massaging them or soaking them in hot water. Problem was solved when Russ went out and bought me an Avent breast pump, which has been a total godsend.. means that I can express heaps, and that Russ can help with feeding. I find that i am not as stressed as i was either- before feeding i used to worry obsessively about "what if i can't get him latched on properly.. OH MY GOD I am going to starve my baby!!!".. now, expressing and feeding with bottles is SO much easier! I recon that the important thing to me is that he is getting exclusively breast milk.. how he gets that milk is not that important in the bigger scheme of things.
My family are arriving in Dunedin on Saturday for my graduation- I've decided to only go to the ceremony, and to skip the parade and so forth.. honestly, i don't think i could walk that far just now, given that walking around the supermarket almost did me in totally!
I went through a stage of being a bit bummed about having to have a c-section- and about the fact that his birth was not what i had hoped it would be- but in the end, it did all work out for the best!
Wound is fine, all healed nicely, but still a bit sore and feeling bruised- am enjoying doing no housework though!!
Visitors are more than welcome- I DO NOT like the whole "new mummy isolation" thing.. where people want to visit, but think that i will be too busy, or asleep, or melting down, to see people.
Anyhoo, it's almost 9.00, and Lucas should be awake soonish **yay**.. so i better head off..
OOH! I forgot- we gave him his first bath at home since the hospital last night- Russ wanted to try out the baby "bedtime bath" stuff that he bought. It was SO cute! Lucas transformed himself into floating cabbage baby- he relaxed TOTALLY and just floated there looking all blissed out and happy and making gurgly noises.. then he started farting in the bath water, and looking surprised at that bubbly feeling, and then farting some more.. daddy is very proud! *sighs*
