Up Ahead

I tend to build up pretty grand schemes in my mind, you know. Like the idea that while in college I would read about boats and boating, and I would learn about river navigation. I would, over the course of four years, construct a houseboat/raft with which I would maneuver down the Mississippi. Upon reaching the Gulf I would sell my raft and use the little money it garnered as a means of travelling back home long enough to pack up my few remaining goods and set off in search of adventure.

The only real problem with my grand scheme is time, with it appearing that I will not actually be in college for four years. No events in motion at this very moment are directly and clearly leading up to my departure, but it really does feel invevitable.
All of the above in mind, I must hurry up and learn to build a raft. Anyone with excellent resources on how the crap to stay alive while afloat down a strange river, please send links my way!

I've also decided that after my Tom Sawyering is done, I shall become an expatriot, travelling the world and wondering where home really is. I will probably never make a lot of money this way (which is probably why I will, instead, just stay in the business and have small adventures) but it would make a swell movie for some independent director.
