The rest of the trip

I meant to post parts 2 and 3 of the Tennessee trip already. When I saved the draft, though, those parts got lost, and only part 1 remained. Upon realizing this, I knew that there was no way in hell I wanted to write in detail the rest again, and I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to read it ( Read more... )

The no naps part was kinda bad, but not as much because it didn't give me a break (I fully expect no breaks on vacation), but because it made every. single. thing. be. life. or. death. for. the. kids.
They were so freaking dramatic the whole time. I mean, it's not like they were bad, they were exceptional and sweet, they were just so freaking needy and emotional. Completely overstimulated, completely overtired.
I had absolutely no control over when things were, though, and when we had to be places. It was the complete opposite of every single thing we do for the kids. No regular schedules, no normality, event scheduled after event scheduled after event, no bedtimes, no home cooked food.
I think it's really good for them to have breaks from routine, it's just really hard to handle the fallout from two 2 year olds being shaken up at the same time, you know?

It was absolutely fabulous being able to come back home and immediately slip back into our familiar routine.
A week later, we're still feeling it, though. Jilly's had nightmares every single night, and as far as we can tell, they're just amorphous anxiety type dreams. All of it is new fears that didn't exist at all before (or at least, that she never spoke of).
She's aware of shadows now, and they scare her, the house alarm system beeps are freaking her out, she says there's monsters (where the hell she got the idea of monsters I simply don't know).
