Sorry kid, your ass is large. It was sort of your destiny, though.

When the kids were around 10 or so months old, we went on a trip to Ikea. We got four of their awesome little potty chairs. Two for upstairs, two for downstairs. We had no illusion that they would soon be diaper free, but we wanted to introduce them to the idea of sitting on a potty, so it was never a weird foreign concept ( Read more... )

yeah, i'm not sure where the myth of that girls are easier comes from, because my experience thus far has been that girls train easier.

we'll see, and HOOORAY for Philip!

Go sleep, C.

Although I agree with the thoughts behind what you meant to say.

I think it can be easier for boys, because it's all out there in the open, and you can easily see what's happening. It'll be interesting to see how this progresses. :)

First of all, those Ikea potties are ridonkulously small. My friend had a bunch for her son and he didn't fit on them well either and at some point he had some kind of problem where he switched position in the middle of peeing and it deflected off the "deflector" bit and straight into his face, which freaked him out so much he stood up and fell over... hence kiddo, potty and pee all over the floor. Needless to say, that set him back a bit on the whole potty business!

I'll also just chime in right here to say that I'm weirdly happy that Phillip is getting a first. He's due for a big win. :-D

That's fantastic! :) Good for Philip. I really hope we can figure out something that low-key and natural when our times comes.

WTG PHILLIP!!

(no illusions, I know, but its very cool that he made a concerted effort to do something "big kid" and succeeded where Jilly could not for a change)

a lot of the beginning of potty training is just "catching" it with a good routine. Most kids' bodies will respond well to routine of when to do their business and eventually they kind of grok how to control it at will. The confidence thing is the best part. :)
