So the kids were basically sick from right after their birthday to maybe a week or so ago. A solid month of sick. It was pretty intense.
There were hospital visits, and urgent care visits, and plenty of regular doctor visits. It seemed like there were many weeks where every single day consisted of going to see doctors.
They got immunized a few days into being sick (well, Jill did, Philip was wheezy, so he had to wait a few weeks while we did the doctor shuffle with him) with their 4 year old shots and the flu shot. Which, by the way, just in case you were the type of person to wonder if the immunizations could be the source of the issues, read the timeline I just wrote.
Immunizations rarely cause illnesses. Sure, it happens, because frankly rarely means it does happen. I certainly don't plan our families healthcare around rarities, though.
Anyway. While this was happening it seemed like everyone I knew also was getting sick. All over the damn world. It was a little creepy.
Now the kids' pediatricians (which is like a pretty big practice, actually) just posted on their Facebook feed that they're sorry about how long the waits in the packed waiting rooms are. That they're going as fast as they can seeing as how most visits are requiring breathing treatments, blood tests and ambulance trips to the hospital.
Holy fuck y'all.
I remember when we were in the midst of the sick talking to Russell about how our nexus point with friends and such meant that it was likely that in a couple weeks to a month there was going to be bad sick all over. I just didn't expect to be quite that accurate.
We know an alarming amount of people, from here and all over the world. As do our friends. As do their friends.
I really hope that we were merely on the front of the trend and that it's not a continuing saga for us. I also really hope everyone gets better soon.
Also, just a heads up for anyone? If your kid gets a fever or a cough? Take them to the doctor immediately, and please get the flu shot this year. It's a good match, and this is a helluva flu.
