I'm an actively involved, practicing Christian and I agree just about 100% with everything you posted here. We don't do Hanukkah because I have no Jewish heritage, but most of the traditions western cultures observe this time of year have nothing to do with Jesus, and even the most fundamentalist of Christians generally observe at least three different holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) during the winter holiday season, to say nothing of more Catholic/mainline observances of St. Stephen's Day and Epiphany. What's wrong with saying holiday season? It's the simple truth.
The reason I say just about 100% and not 100% is because while I tried to tell my kids the truth about Santa, everyone at school, as well as their baby sitters ten year old son, does seem to believe in Santa and that's passed on to my kids regardless of what I say. We don't emphasize the gift-giving part of Christmas, but rather the music, and the being with family, and giving to others, and neither one has a list for Santa or has been clamoring for expensive, specific things. But they still both do believe, and I've kind of given up fighting.
